| When the going gets
tough, we all need a place to go to. For many women, Ascension
Place, Inc. provides shelter from the storm during difficult times.
Both programs, Ascension Place and St. Anne’s Place, are safe,
supportive, and caring living environments for women struggling with
complex issues, including homelessness, mental illness, and chemical
dependency. The caring staff at both programs works with residents
to instill the self-confidence and skills enabling them to face the
world again. The mission of both Ascension Place and St. Anne’s
Place is to provide women in crisis or transition with a stable
environment and the opportunity to explore options for their future.

We have an
exciting new program...
St. Anne’s Place
Aftercare Program
In 2009,
St. Anne’s Place initiated a new Aftercare Program, with the
goal of helping families leaving St. Anne’s Place make a
successful transition from homelessness to family stability. An
Aftercare Advocate works closely with families to locate
suitable and affordable housing. She helps connect them to
schools and extracurricular activities. Children receive
tutoring assistance, while mothers have guidance in navigating
the school system, attending parent-teacher conferences, and
helping their children with homework. The Advocate connects
women to job training resources, and works with them on
developing their resumes and interviewing skills. The Advocate
also helps families in scheduling regular preventive health
care. Over a two year period, the Aftercare Advocate works
intensely with families to help them achieve sustainable
independence in the community. We believe that committing this
time and attention will have long-term benefits: preventing a
return to homelessness and fostering long-term family stability.
The
Aftercare Program has received funding from the Opus Foundation,
the Sheltering Arms Foundation, and Allianz Life Insurance
Company.
